How to Lead Your Team to Victory

The core components of winning have remained consistent throughout the ages but even though they have been around, they are often overlooked. Winners know that winning takes a combination of elements that need to come together flawlessly in order for something hoped for to happen. These factors are in our control and although they do not guarantee winning they do guarantee that you will have a great chance to win. Proven leaders like Mark Stiffler will tell you that leaders who reach victory pay attention to the core qualities of winning and use them as a foundation. Here are some of the key components of winning.

Delegate Responsibility

A key aim for any leader is to never allow himself to become a log-jam for progress. So you need to be careful about placing yourself in a position to approve every small detail of a project. When you do this, you not only slow things down, because you are the boss, no one will likely tell you that you are creating unnecessary problems for everyone else. This approach, makes competent people feel confined and causes them to lose trust in you and themselves. A good leader will hire a great team and then work with them to create a system of communicating and keeping key people informed of progress and problems, and develop another system for dealing with both. If the team member does not adhere to the agreed upon process for how things will occur, then you as the leader should intervene.

Always Compliment Successes

Success in business is sometimes easy and other times difficult to come by. What should never be done with success in business is have it taken for granted. Your team works hard for you and you need to show them that you appreciate their hard work and that you understand that they delivered a win for you. So when there is a great or small success make it a habit to take some time to acknowledge the success and the team members responsible for creating the success.

Stay Committed

When you decide you want to be a leader, you should expect that whatever your goal is, if it is worth something, you will meet with disappointment and failure along the way. Additionally, it will take struggle and there will be times when things are not going well. If you expect your team to work hard and produce during the good and the rough times, you need to look at the challenging times as opportunities to regroup, retrench and fight on.

As the leader you will need to lead by example because everyone will be looking at you during the tough times to see how you respond. Will you lose confidence? Will you despair and want to give up? The choice you make will determine where everyone ends up; either at the top of the mountain or at the bottom of it.

Keep in mind, there is no greater motivator than seeing the leader pushing along with everyone else when things get tough. By proving your commitment to the goal, you will not only earn your team’s respect, you will also instill that same energy among them. So be prepared for war and get ready for the battle.

Take the lead and take control, but institute operating procedures that creating winning results.
