Picking My Desert Island Discs

There is a radio show in the UK called Desert Island Discs, the premise of the show is that they bring celebrities on and ask them which records they would take with them if they were trapped on a desert island. I have been an avid follower of this show ever since my good friend Greg Lindae turned me on to it and recently he asked me what my desert island discs would be. I wanted to share them with you and see what you think, and what yours would be. You only have 8 to take with you and here are mine.

Movements – Roots Manuva

I love UK hip hop and Roots Manuva is the very best for me, this track taken off his debut album would ensure that I stayed nice and chilled out on the island, and most importantly, calm.

Last Christmas – George Michael

I adore Christmas and if I were stuck on a desert island I wouldn’t know when it was and so I could have it at any given time. This record by George Michael is the best ever Christmas record for me and I’d have to take it with me.

Bridge Over Troubled Water – Simon and Garfunkel

I am not sure that there has ever been a better song made than this astounding effort from Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. I would never get tired of listening to it and it would give me hope when things weren’t good.

Nas – N.Y. State of Mind

This is the greatest hip hop track ever written in my view and I would have to have some of these smooth beats with me on the island. Even though I’ve never been a thug in New York, this song makes you feel as though you are and love the story which Nas tells.

T-Shirt Sun Tan – Stereophonics

When I was 16 years old, The Stereophonics for me were the greatest band on the planet and this rock masterpiece would take me back to that time.

Turn Back Time – Cher

I remember taking road trips with my family when I was young and this would always be blasting out, an absolute classic and one which I could listen to over and over again.

Into The Mystic – Van Morrison

The most soul that I have veer heard in a white man, Van Morrison is a great singer and writer and this is one of my favorite songs of his, a beautiful melody and an uplifting song.

Sweet Disposition – Temper Trap

This song has been at the heart of so many memorable moments in my life and I couldn’t have an experience on a desert island without taking it with me. I love the way that the song builds and then explodes into life.

And there you have it, my desert island discs, now it’s over to you, what would your 8 tracks be, let us know in the comments section below.
